The Ring Alarm home security system is a fantastic product that has given many homeowners peace of mind.

Smoke Detectors that Work with Ring Alarm

At this time, there are only a couple of options available to connect your Smoke Detector directly to your Ring Alarm system.

Depending on your home wiring and setup, these options might work perfectly for you. However, for some homeowners, you might want to wait for more options or select from other smart home smoke detectors.

First Alert Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Z-Wave Smoke Alarm Directly Connects to Ring Alarm

First Alert Z-Wave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Works with Ring Alarm, 2nd Generation

Protect your family from smoke and carbon monoxide with the First Alert Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. It is a great way to protect your home from two of the deadliest threats in one device.

The alarm includes two sensors: a photoelectric smoke sensing chamber and an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor.  This dual protection will alert you to the presence of two different hazards – smoke and CO.

The First Alert Z-Wave alarm is also easy to set up, so you can be sure that it will work when you need it most. This is a battery powered device that you can install on the wall or ceiling.

When installed on the wall, the smoke alarm should be placed between 4 and 12 inches from where the wall meets the ceiling. When installing on the ceiling it is best to place it as close as possible to the center, but at least 4 inches from the wall.

With this product, all you have to do is install it and forget about it – until an emergency happens!

That’s what makes this product so special – not only does it work hard for you during emergencies, but also before they happen by giving early warnings through its wireless connectivity with Ring products.

This means that if there were ever a fire or CO leak detected in your home while no one was there, the device would automatically notify the Ring Protect professional monitoring team who would then contact emergency responders.

No input is needed from you or your family at all. All you have to do is stay safe outside your home until help arrives!

Ring Alarm Smoke and CO Listener

Make any Smoke Alarm Work with Ring Alarm!

Ring Alarm Smoke and CO Listener

The Ring Alarm Smoke and CO Listener is a device that alerts you on your smartphone when your smoke or carbon monoxide detector sounds an alarm.

It does not detect fire, smoke or carbon monoxide but it works with UL listed detectors 10 years old or less. This allows you to make your current smoke detector a smart detector that works with your Ring Alarm.

One of the best things about this device is how easy it is to set up. It can be set up in minutes without tools or professional installation so anyone can do it. The setup is a breeze and the instructions provided give you very clear, step-by-step installation guides.

Once installed, you can manage this product through the Ring App like other products that work with the Ring Alarm Security System.

The Ring Alarm Smoke and CO Listener works by identifying the unique smoke and CO alarm sounds on current devices. Smoke alarms can be identified with three on/off pulses (Temporal 3) of an audio tone of approximately 500 Hz. Carbon Monoxide or CO, meanwhile produces four such frequencies (Temporal 4).

As soon as the listener detects one of these sounds, it will notify you or the emergency dispatch.

Features

  • Easy Setup – Use the simple wall / ceiling plate to mount and follow the instructions in the Ring App. Takes less than 5 minutes to get set up.
  • Smoke and CO Alerts – Get alerts on your phone when smoke or carbon monoxide is detected by your existing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Make your current smoke and CO alarms smart!
  • Battery Powered – No need to hardwire Smoke & CO Listener into your home’s electrical system. The battery lasts for up to 3 years before needing replacement

Overall, the Ring Smoke Alarm and CO listener is a great way to enhance your existing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It’s easy to set up, battery powered, and doesn’t require hardwiring into the electrical system.

The one downside is that it can trigger the fire department on false alarms if used with professional monitoring services. That said, I think this is a great device to use independently without professional monitoring.

Overview: Smoke and CO2 Detectors Connected to Ring?

You invested in a Ring Alarm system…great choice!

Now you can make the Ring Alarm system even better by integrating it with your smoke and CO detectors.

Let’s quickly discuss the benefits of connecting your smoke alarms to Ring and how the connections work.

Benefits of Connecting Your Smoke Alarm to Ring

There are two primary benefits for connecting your smoke and CO alarms to your Ring Alarm system. The first is smart notifications of smoke and CO events on your phone. The second is automatic emergency dispatch of fire services if you have an event.

1. Smart Notifications

You can set up smart notifications with smoke detectors that work with Ring or the Ring Alarm Smoke and CO listener.

Once set up, the Ring app will let you know when your smoke or CO alarm goes off.

The App sends notifications based on the type of event that occurs, such as a CO or Smoke Alarm going off. This notification can be sent to multiple phones within the household in order to alert everyone about an emergency situation.

This is a great feature that gives you additional peace of mind when away from home. Pair this feature with a remote camera to check on things once you get a notification.

If there really is an emergency, then you can notify the fire department right from the app if you use professional monitoring services.

2. Emergency Dispatch

If you subscribe to a Ring Protect Plan for professional monitoring services then you can add smoke and CO monitoring.

Your Ring Alarm Base Station monitors your home for fire and CO alarms and alerts the Monitoring Center if a threat has been detected.

They also send an alert to you, as well as all of your Shared Users when this happens.

If there is an emergency situation at hand they can dispatch emergency services right away!

How Your Smoke Alarm Connects to Ring

The Ring Alarm Listener and other smoke alarms that work with Ring connect directly to your Ring Alarm Base Station. This connection is made using a stable Z-Wave Plus connection.

Z-Wave Plus is the latest edition of this communication protocol used in smart home products. In introducing faster connections between devices as well improved range and battery life.

The Z-Wave Plus with Smart Start feature allows for a simple and seamless setup process. Devices are registered in the app using an integrated QR code scanner which makes pairing your new product quick and easy!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Ring Alarm Listener and other smoke alarms that work with Ring are a quick and easy way to enhance your Ring home security system.

It is worth adding one of these devices to your home even if you don’t use professional monitoring.

Bottom Line: The peace of mind for getting smart smoke and CO alarm notifications on your phone is worth the investment by itself.

  1. Hi Jason!
    Ok… I need application advice.
I have a Ring security setup with cameras, sensors, etc. In the great room I have a smoke/co alarm that is battery powered. The rest of the smoke alarms in the house are hardwired units (which I prefer). I’m looking for the ability for all of these to be able to comm. with the Ring system all while keeping the installations I have presently (ie: battery, hardwired).I contacted First alert with the question of combing the Combo model with the hardwired SA521 model line but they informed me that they won’t connect wirelessly in this fashion for the ZCombo to report back to Ring that there is an alarm at any of the units in the house. In addition, I’m not a fan of installing another sensor (the Ring listener)next to all my smoke detectors in the house. Do you have any ideas as to how I can solve this dilemma?
