If you have a smart home, then you need voice control of your TV.
One of the easiest ways to add voice control to your TV is to use an Amazon Fire TV device with an Echo device.
You simply link your Echo or Echo Dot to a Fire Stick or any other Fire TV device in the Alexa app. Then you can control your Fire TV with the Echo using voice commands.
This guide will show you how to connect and control your Fire TV with Alexa.
How to Connect Alexa to Fire TV
You can connect Fire TV with Echo using the Alexa app. Once they are linked, any TV commands you give to your Echo will be applied to the selected TV.
Step 1: Open Settings in the Alexa App
Click the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the Alexa app. Then choose “Settings” at the bottom of the list.
Step 2: Select TV & Video
Scroll through the menu list and choose “TV & Video” in the Alexa Preferences section of the settings menu.
Step 3: Select Fire TV to Manage Echo Devices
You will see a list of featured service providers where you can use Alexa to control shows and movies by voice.
Select Fire TV in the featured providers list and then tap “Manage Devices”.
Step 4: Choose Link a Device to Connect Fire TV with Echo
Tap the “Link Device” button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5: Choose Fire TV Device
Choose the Fire TV device that you want to control with Alexa. You should see a list of all Fire TV devices on your account.
Step 6: Choose Alexa Device and Link Devices
Choose the Alexa device you want to use to control your Fire TV. Each Alexa device can only control one Fire TV device. After choosing your device, select “Link Devices”.
Now the devices are linked so you can control your Fire TV with Echo. If you want to unlink a device just choose “Unlink Device” found in the “Your Linked Devices” list.
What Can Alexa Control on Your Fire TV?
Every Alexa device can control TV navigation and playback controls on your Fire TV.
This includes standard controls like play, pause, fast forward or rewind.
You can also open apps on your Fire TV like Netflix or Hulu. Additionally, you can start a movie or show by voice on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix and more.

Can Alexa Turn on My TV?
Yes. Using a connected Echo device, Alexa can automatically turn on your TV when you give a voice command such as “Tune to HGTV on Hulu”.
You have to enable “Turn on TV with Alexa” in the Fire TV settings. Follow these steps on your Fire TV:
- Open Fire TV Settings
- Select Alexa Settings
- Set “Turn on TV with Alexa” to On
Now your linked Echo device will turn on your TV when you give voice commands.
Can I Control TV Volume with Alexa?
Yes. If you have a Fire TV Cube or an Amazon Fire TV edition TV then Alexa can control volume, power and input selection by voice without a remote.
The Fire TV Cube allows you to turn on or off the TV, control the volume or change the input on your TV.
The Fire TV Stick 4K with the newest voice remote can control your TV power, volume or inputs using the voice remote only. However, you can control navigation and playback by voice once you connect your Fire TV with Echo.
