Why is Alexa flashing green? Is it trying to tell me something?
This is a common question for many people with Amazon Echo devices.
If you have an Alexa device and it starts to flash green, don’t worry – this is normal and your device isn’t broken.
Read on to learn why your Alexa may be flashing green and how you can adjust your settings to stop the flashing.
Why is Alexa Flashing Green?
There are three scenarios when Alexa flashes or pulses green: 1) when you have an incoming call, 2) when you have an active call or 3) when you have a drop-in call from another Echo Device.
You can immediately stop Alexa from flashing green by saying, “Alexa, answer” or “Alexa, hang-up”. If you want to permanently stop Alexa from flashing green then you can adjust your Echo communication settings.
How to Stop Alexa from Flashing Green
Alexa will stop flashing green when you say “Alexa, hang up” or automatically after 10 seconds from when the device started ringing and flashing.
If you want to stop Alexa from flashing green permanently, then you can adjust your Echo communication device settings.
You can turn off communications on each individual Alexa device in your home. If communication is turned off then you can’t make calls and the device won’t flash green.
To turn off communications, just follow these steps:
- Open the Amazon app on iOS or Android phone and select “Devices” in the bottom menu.
- Next, select “Echo & Alexa Devices” and choose the device you want to modify.
- Finally, choose “Communications” in the menu and toggle the setting to off.
Can I stop Alexa from flashing green during a call?
Unfortunately, you can’t turn off the flashing green light while a call is active.
This is likely a privacy concern for Amazon, and they always want a visual indicator when the device is listening.
